How the Internet Works

1. What is the internet?
The internet is a wide area network, or WAN, and it is made of many smaller netowrks. Everything that goes online has to go through the internet. About 2.3 billion people are regular users of the worl's largest WAN, or the internet. 

2. What is a protocol?
The rules for how computers communicate with each other in networks. 1969 is when the first network protocol was established, and the system was being used for the first e-mails.

3. What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Service, and it is critical to Internet communication. It is like the "phone book" of the internet.
